The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has decided to name the journalism department of one of its universities after the martyred journalist Arshad Sharif, to honor his memory. In this regard, the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has officially directed the Higher Education Department to take necessary steps.
Announcing these directives on Tuesday, KP’s Minister for Higher Education, Archives, and Libraries, Meena Khan Afridi, stated that the government will ensure the implementation of Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur’s instructions to commemorate Arshad Sharif. He confirmed that the journalism and mass communication department of a university will be named after the late journalist.
The provincial minister further elaborated that the Chief Minister had issued these directives during a television show, and in accordance with these instructions, the Journalism and Mass Communication Department at the University of Peshawar will be renamed in Arshad Sharif’s honor. Sharing further details, Afridi emphasized that work on this initiative has begun on an emergency basis, following the Chief Minister’s instructions, as Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is the only party that represents all segments of society. He also highlighted the undeniable role of journalists in the restoration of true democracy in Pakistan.
