Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Syed Fakhar Jehan on Thursday directed the Narcotics Control Wing of the Excise Department to intensify intelligence-based operations against drug traffickers across the province.
Chairing a performance review meeting of the Narcotics Control Wing in Peshawar, the minister said the provincial government, under the leadership of the chief minister, was pursuing a zero-tolerance policy against narcotics.
The meeting was briefed on anti-narcotics operations and measures undertaken by the department from January to May 2026, said a handout.
Among those present were Secretary Excise Khalid Ilyas, Director General Excise Abdul Haleem Khan, anti-narcotics officers, circle officers and SHOs of excise police stations from across the province.
During the meeting, Mr Jehan directed officers to further improve the effectiveness of anti-drug operations, saying eradication of narcotics was one of the foremost responsibilities of the department.
He instructed all excise police stations and operational squads to ensure coordinated and intelligence-based actions against drug dealers and individuals involved in narcotics trafficking.
The minister also gave officers a one-month deadline to demonstrate improved and practical performance in anti-narcotics operations. Mr Jehan said the provincial government would provide all possible resources to strengthen the department and enhance its operational capacity.
He added that eight new excise police stations had been established across the province to reinforce anti-narcotics efforts, while measures would also be taken to improve salaries and facilities for departmental staff.
Referring to the vision of Imran Khan, the minister said no leniency would be shown towards those involved in the drug trade.
Officials of the Excise Department also appreciated the provincial minister for establishing new police stations aimed at strengthening anti-narcotics operations in the province.
