Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Law, Parliamentary Affairs and Human Rights, Aftab Alam, chaired a high-level meeting at the Relief, Rehabilitation and Settlement Department to review the administrative and operational affairs of Rescue 1122 District Kohat.
The meeting was attended by senior officials of the Relief, Rehabilitation and Settlement Department, the Director General of Rescue 1122, and other concerned officers.
During the briefing, officials informed the meeting that Rescue 1122 Kohat was launched in 2018, while its emergency response network was expanded across the district in 2023. A specialised Mines Rescue Service was introduced in 2024, followed by the strengthening of Water Rescue Services in 2026 to enhance emergency response capabilities.
Officials said Rescue 1122 Kohat currently operates six rescue stations, including two stations in Tehsil Kohat. The district has a fleet of 26 ambulances and 10 heavy rescue vehicles, supported by 125 trained rescue personnel.
The service provides emergency medical response, firefighting, road traffic accident rescue, search and rescue operations, disaster response, building collapse rescue, and community emergency awareness and training programmes.
The meeting was further informed that key emergency response points have been established at RHC Usterzai, RHC Chorlaki, and Civil Hospital Zarghunkhel, Darra Adam Khel, enabling faster emergency response in remote areas. Officials also briefed the meeting that two development projects supported by the World Bank have already been approved to further strengthen Rescue 1122 services in the district.
Addressing the meeting, Minister Aftab Alam said the provision of timely and quality emergency services remains a top priority of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government. He directed the authorities to establish new rescue stations in underserved areas to ensure equal access to emergency services.
The minister particularly emphasised the establishment of a Rescue 1122 station or sub-station on Old Pindi Road, stating that it would significantly improve emergency response for surrounding communities.
He also instructed the department to give preference to local residents in recruitment at the grassroots level, saying that employing local youth would not only create employment opportunities but also enhance the efficiency of rescue operations.
Aftab Alam further called for the establishment of additional key response points at BHU Togh Bala and RHC Chorlaki, while assuring the meeting that the provincial government would facilitate the acquisition of land required for these projects.
The meeting concluded with a commitment to expand the Rescue 1122 network in Kohat, enhance operational capacity through modern equipment and additional manpower, and improve emergency coverage in remote and underserved areas.
