The caretaker minister termed irrigation department schemes pivotal for the development of KP’s agriculture sector
PESHAWAR
An important meeting held here on Monday with the provincial minister for irrigation, communication and construction Engineer Ahmed Jan Khan in the chair, reviewed progress on ongoing projects of irrigation department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
Caretaker ministers, secretary irrigation department, Muhammad Tahir, and other senior officers of the department attended the meeting.
The forum was informed about the ongoing efforts of the department regarding the protection of major canals and other sources of irrigation in the province from the severe impacts of the flash floods.
The chair was also informed about the progress on the ongoing projects under the irrigation department.
Matters related to the departmental services of the offices of Chief Engineer North, Chief Engineer South, Chief Engineer Newly Merged Areas (NMAs) also came under discussion in the meeting.

“The officials of the department should realize their duties and they should play an active role for the development of this province by using their technical skills,” he said and added that the provincial government was taking pragmatic steps to improve the overall performance of the irrigation system in KP.
Engineer Ahmed Jan Khan said that Allah Almighty has given immense natural resources in the form of water, these resources can be used for irrigation and cultivation of agricultural land through canal system and other means, he said.
Ahmed Jan Khan asked the department to intensify its efforts to make this system more efficient and beneficial for the province and its people, adding that the government is committed to encourage the officers for showing best performance and give result-oriented performance in the field of irrigation.
