The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Department has ordered a comprehensive review of fire safety arrangements at hospitals and healthcare facilities across the province. A high-level meeting chaired by Secretary Health Fayaz Ali Shah on Thursday reviewed existing safety measures, emergency preparedness, firefighting arrangements and response mechanisms at healthcare facilities.
The meeting was attended by representatives of Civil Defence, Rescue 1122, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority, Secretary Relief, medical superintendents and district health officers.
The secretary directed the formation of divisional- and district-level committees to assess fire safety arrangements at all hospitals and healthcare facilities.
The committees were tasked with examining firefighting equipment, emergency preparedness, evacuation arrangements, emergency response mechanisms and other essential safety protocols.
Shah directed the committees to submit a comprehensive report on fire safety arrangements at all hospitals in the province to the Health Department within one week.
The meeting also stressed better coordination among relevant departments and institutions to ensure an effective and timely response in the event of a fire or other emergency.
The Health Department said it was committed to ensuring safe healthcare environments for patients, attendants, doctors, nurses, paramedics and other healthcare workers across the province.
