PESHAWAR: The provincial health department has confirmed two new cases of polio, raising the province’s total to five cases so far this year. With these latest detections, the number of polio cases across Pakistan has reached 10, including five from KP, four from Sindh, and one from Punjab. According to health officials, the newly reported cases involve a 28-month-old boy from Union Council Sin Tanga in Bannu and a 26-month-old girl from Union Council Bukhmal Ahmadzai in Lakki Marwat. The cases were confirmed by the Regional Reference Laboratory for Polio Control at the National Institute of Health, Islamabad. So far this year, KP’s reported polio cases include two from Bannu and one each from Torghar, Dera Ismail Khan, and Lakki Marwat. Health authorities have expressed concern over the continued circulation of the poliovirus and have urged parents to ensure that all children under five receive polio vaccinations during upcoming immunization campaigns.
