KP: Wapda workers to protest on January 14

PESHAWAR: A meeting of the Executive Body of All Pakistan Wapda Hydro Electric Workers Union Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, chaired by Provincial Chairman Haji Muhammad Iqbal, was held at the Iqbal Labor Complex in Peshawar. A statement issued by the WAPDA Hydro Union KP here on Thursday stated that the meeting was attended by regional and zonal commanders, as well as union officials, including Provincial Secretary Noorul Amin Haiderzai. During the meeting, Haiderzai briefed the meeting about the series of peaceful protests, demonstrations, and sit-ins held between December 16, 2024, and January 8, 2025, to highlight workers’ issues, including the privatization of DISCOs, staff shortages, and other concerns. The representatives of the union stated that despite notifying relevant authorities, including the President of Pakistan, the government of KP and PESCO management took no action to resolve the issues of the union. The union decided to hold a major protest On January 14 in which thousands of workers from Peshawar and Khyber circles will camp at PESCO Headquarters in Peshawar and will perform no duty except in emergency duties except for hospitals.
