PESHAWAR, May 20 (APP): A Memorandum of Understanding signed between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Parliamentary Women’s group and UN Women Representative to work for Women’s Welfare and to end violence against women here on Thursday.
The MoU was signed by Shah Alina, UN Women’s Representative and Samira Shams, Chairperson of the Parliamentary Women’s Caucus. Deputy Speaker Mahmood Jan, Minister for Labor and Manpower and other parliamentarians were also present on the occasion.
The aim and objective of signing MoU is to take welfare measures include prevention of violence against women and girls in the society. Women MPs were also given gender champions badges by UN Women representatives during the signing ceremony.
Samira Shams said that prevention of violence against women and girls in society is one of the objectives of the MoU. On this occasion, UN Women also pins gender champions badges to the women MPs. Samira Shams said that Parliamentary Women group has played a key role in passing the Domestic Violence Bill and similarly, Women Trafficking and Acid and Burn and Child Marriage Laws are in the pipeline which will be tabled soon.
UN Women’s Representative Shah Alina on this occasion said that they along with the Women Parliamentarians of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would work for the welfare of women under this memorandum.
