Kurram tribes agree to ceasefire for indefinite period

Under the special directives of the Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Gandapur, a Joint Session of the Grand Jirga and both sides of the Kurram district was held under the chairmanship of the Commissioner Kohat Division Syed Motasim Billah Shah on Friday. Certain important decisions were taken for sustainable peace in the Kurram district. The DIG Kohat Sher Akbar Khan was also present on this occasion.
The members of the Grand Jirga held individual as well as collective settings with both the sides and after the hours long deliberations, agreed on Cease-Fire in Kurram district for an indefinite period, while the bunkers remained empty until the final decision of the Grand Jirga.
On this occasion, both sides agreed that solution of any problem through war is impossible and for a permanent and durable solution of this decades long-standing problem, time will definitely be required. However, for this sincerity and trust from both sides will be required. Both the sides also pledged that for the sake of the bright future of their new generation and the peace of the region, they will sit in the Jirga until the establishment of complete and lasting peace in the district and they will be here until the peace agreement. They will go to their regions with the agreement of peace.
Commissioner Kohat assured that the government will fulfill its responsibilities for the establishment of lasting peace and the government’s writ will be ensured in any case.
