KHYBER
A protest rally of laborers and daily wagers against unemployment was held here at NADRA checkpoint, Torkham Border on Tuesday.
They were of the view that the extra-restricted policy adopted at Pak-Afghan sharing Torkham has denied pedestrians movement at the crossing for earning three times the meal.
Addressing on the occasion speakers including laborer union chief Amir Nawaz, Farman Shinwari,Fahmidullah and others said that the economy of ninety percent of local people depends on the Torkham and restricted policy followed at the border has forced them to starve.
They maintained that earlier, the laborers had been exempted from visa and passport formalities and a token issued to them to move either side of the crossing but it was abolished for unknown reasons that needs to be resumed.
The tribesmen deserve to have additional job opportunities from government at Torkham border as they have suffered a lot in the last two decades in war of terrorism, they lamented.
They added that contrary to the Federal Interior Minister announcement for relaxation at the border crossing, the NADRA has started a visa obligatory scheme for pedestrian movement at the border equivalent to deliberately keeping them jobless.
The protestors were carrying placards inscribed with slogans in favor of their demands and chanted for the resumption of the Torkham border for waging. After assurance of the security forces that the matter will be sorted out through dialog, the laborers ended their agitation.
