KHYBER
A protest sit-in of daily wagers and laborers against restricted policy at the crossing point was held here on Monday. Scores of local laborers and manual workers holding black flags initiated a protest camp in Torkham to file their resentment over the allegedly controlled crossing policy at the border.
Elders, political elites and people from different walks of life visited the protest camp and expressed their solidarity with the laborers community. Speaking on the occasion those who led the sit-in including Qari Nazeem Gul Shinwari, Ameer Nawaz, Umar and others said that the policy makers should revise visa relaxation policy for the locals who used to cross the border frequently.
They asked for resumption of NADRA verification token system for the daily wagers and warned that laborers thrashing that had become a routine business should be halted forthwith.
Various departments, stationed in Torkham act beyond their authority and tease the laborers for one or another reason that is unacceptable and needs to be curtained, they blamed.
They threatened that if their grievance was not addressed then with consultation of the tribal and political leadership, they would come on roads and begin indefinite agitation in favor of their demands. Earlier, the protestors took out a protest rally in Torkham .
