PESHAWAR
The newly elected cabinet of Local Council Officers Association Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (LCOAKP) took oath of offices in a simple but impressive ceremony held at the office of the Minister for Local Government, Civil Secretariat, here on Sunday.
Provincial Minister for Local Government, Elections and Rural Development (LG,E&RD) Faisal Amin Gandapur administered oath and congratulated them all on their victory in their annual elections. The newly elected office bearers of LCOAKP included Chief Patron Shaukat Ali Khan, Chairman Nisar Khan, President Barkatullah Durrani, Senior Vice President Riaz Ahmad Awan, Vice President Mazhar Muzaffar Awan, Vice President Miss Zulhajja Ilyas, General Secretary Mian Shafiqul Rehman, Joint Secretary Naseer Khan and Media Coordinator Rizwanullah Khan.
Sardar Faisal Amin Gandapur on this occasion assured the Association that the provincial government would take care of the problems faced by the municipal officers including service structure, in the efficient discharge of their duties, on priority basis and would also participate in their welfare activities. However, he said, his government was also justified in expecting all of the municipal authorities to perform their basic duty of making cities and towns across the province as clean and beautiful as mirrors, and providing all civic and municipal services to the citizens diligently and honestly.
He said that under the reward and punishment policy of the provincial government, devoted and dutiful officers would be encouraged in every possible way but even the harshest reprimand of corrupt, negligent and lethargic officials would not be avoided. Therefore, the municipal authorities have to identify such corrupt elements themselves and remove them from their ranks, he maintained.
Faisal Amin Gandapur cautioned that he would pay surprise visits to various localities, TMAs and local bodies institutions throughout the province from time to time and would review the performance of municipal officers there to see the level and standards of their will of serving the masses by himself. He recalled that the provincial government spends millions of billions of rupees on the local government system that comes from the poor masses, just for the cause of improving the city’s infrastructure and providing civic amenities to the people.
Therefore, he said, no compromise will be made on the quality of municipal services and facilities while improving this system also depends on the will and conduct of municipal officers, he added.
Earlier, the provincial minister, after taking oath from the newly elected office bearers of the Local Council Officers Association (LCOAKP), wore them floral garlands and also got acquainted with their problems.
