Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has said it is bitter reality strong local bodies came into being whenever dictatorship came in Pakistan while local government system was ignored during democratic eras. He said this while addressing National Assembly (NA) Tuesday.
He said the recent incidents in Karachi warrant the powers be transferred to grass root level.
He stressed people will have to be given representation at street and mohalla level. But unfortunately we don’t hold local bodies election. The local bodies polls are postponed even after announcement of schedule on one pretext or other .

Citing example defence minister said Chinese president also reached presidency through local government system adding local government system is inevitable in the country.
