The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday rejected a contempt of court appeal against Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz senior vice president Maryam Nawaz Sharif. According to details, the hearing of the intra-court appeal for contempt of court proceedings against Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz senior vice president Maryam Nawaz was heard by a two-member bench of Lahore High Court (LHC) headed by Justice Ali Baqir Najafi. The plea was moved against the PML-N leader over her anti-judiciary remarks.
The petition stated that the PML-N chief organiser on Feb 23 at a public gathering in Sargodha had targeted some of the judges of the top court’s bench, which had been formed to take up the suo motu notice on delay in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa polls.
She had expressed reservations over inclusion of some judges in the bench, saying they had been part of the benches that issued verdicts against PML-N leadership. At the outset of today’s hearing, the lawyer of the plaintiff requested the court to withdraw the appeal. The court on the basis of the withdrawal of the contempt of court plea, dismissed it. — DNA
