Holds judiciary responsible for political, economic crises in Pakistan | Imran’s four-year reign was full of vengeance
RAWALPINDI
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief organiser Maryam Nawaz on Wednesday continued to castigate the judiciary, saying that it never dared to stand in front of a dictator.
Addressing a lawyers’ convention in Rawalpindi today, Maryam Nawaz said that whenever the judiciary expelled or threatened someone, it was an elected prime minister. Nawaz Sharif came forward to save the judiciary from the tyranny of a dictator, she added.
Judge Seth Waqar sentenced a dictator like Gen Parvez Musharraf. His court was wound up and he was wiped from the face of the earth, she continued. Maryam claimed that concocted cases were registered against her and [her father] Nawaz Sharif.
Pakistan remained under dictatorship for years; no elected prime minister had ever completed the term, she added. “Dictators ruled for over 40 years in Pakistan’s 76-year history, but judiciary never showed courage to bring them in courts only politicians were disqualified and no-elected prime minister completed his or her full term,” she said.
Maryam held judiciary responsible for the current political and economic crises in Pakistan. She said judicial system failed to take action on important issues including leaked audio tapes that exposed corruption among judges. She alleged that Khan had been granted bail in all twelve cases registered against him.
Maryam said that she saw [Chief Justice] Umar Atta Bandial on TV who became emotional. He should have been emotional when the prime minister elected by millions of people was thrown out of office.
She alleged that she and her family had been falsely implicated in cases and disqualified by a “cabal of five”. “Why the judge got emotional during the hearing, but not when her father was disqualified as prime minister over an expired iqama,” she questioned.
“When a prime minister can be disqualified over an Iqama, then why couldn’t another prime minister be disqualified over such a big lie,” she asked. She asserted that the PML-N was selectively disqualified for speaking the truth. The PML-N members were told to either join the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf or leave the party.
The PML-N leader said that she was imprisoned in Adiala Jail for five months. She was kept in death cell twice, but she never cried. She appeared in courts holding his father’s hand more than 150 times; there was no court where they were not summoned, she contended.
She said that she is not afraid of disqualification, she had been disqualified for six years. Criticizing PTI chairman Imran Khan, Maryam said he does not go out of his house because all the cases against him are true. He always talks about the supremacy of law, but himself violates the laws of the country, she maintained.
She said that Imran Khan’s four-year reign was full of vengeance. The PML-N leader alleged Imran Khan, when in power, was primarily focused on arresting his political opponents, rather than focusing on policy and development. “I feel ashamed when that Jackal refers himself as a leader,” she said.
A coward, who called himself a leader, whenever come out of his home, rode in a bullet proof vehicle, she added. She said that 3-4 judges are standing with PTI Chief Imran Khan. “If the support of these 3-4 judges is withdrawn, then Imran will fall down with a thud,” she added. She ruled that Imran gets bail in just two hours. She said that Imran and his facilitators have made a timeline of the tasks which they want to accomplish before the appointment of new chief justice. Maryam said that the current Supreme Court bench which has announced the verdict on the PTI petition challenging the polls delay has assumed the responsibility to facilitate Imran.
Maryam said that the ex-chief of Inter-Services Intelligence General (retd) Faiz Hameed was the biggest facilitator of the former premier. She said that though the former military man had hung his boots now, his remnants were still facilitating Khan. Maryam said that Justice Qazi Faiz Isa was an obstacle in the way of Imran. Now they were associate us with Justice Isa. She reminded that a reference against the judge was filed during Imran’s reign.
She said that Imran lied about a cipher. We were told that we [Imran] had committed no crime, why should we be searched. We were searched for five years, but what they found was only an Iqama, Maryam added.
She alleged that Imran and his wife stole gifts from Toshakhana, but lied to the nation for many years. They sold watches gifted from Saudi Arabia. Farah Gogi shipped money into Pakistan but they hushed up the matter. You know that you have committed a crime and so do your facilitators, she concluded.
She asked if “Pinky pirni” (Bushra Bibi) wasn’t a public office holder then why she [Maryam] and Justice Isa’s wife Sarina Isa were treated like public office holders. Maryam further slammed Khan for not declaring Tyrian White as his daughter.
She said Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah had gone to jail in a false case while the PTI chief was getting bail in dozens of cases. The PML-N leader also expressed that her party agrees that polling should be held on schedule, not before time. “We are not afraid of elections,” she emphasized.
Earlier, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz chief organiser Maryam Nawaz arrived at Rawalpindi Judicial Complex. A large number of lawyers also arrived at the judicial complex. Strict security arrangements were ensured at the judicial complex.
Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah said Wednesday that an attempt was being made to conduct elections in a controversial manner which would lead the country to chaos and anarchy. While addressing the lawyers’ convention in Rawalpindi, he said: “We are not the ones to fear elections. We were never ‘selected’ and came to power with the power of the vote.”
The interior minister said that the elections of 1971 and 1977 were controversial. “Now this third election will lead to the destruction of the country. We are the obstacle in the way of this destruction.” He stated that one man’s stubbornness was not acceptable, adding that elections would be held but on their time. — DNA
