Pakistan Literary Society (PLS) Sialkot organised an awards ceremony on Sunday to honour writers, poets, journalists, artists and intellectuals from across the country for their contributions to literature, arts and social services.
The ceremony featured the Lifetime Achievement Awards, Fakhr-e-Sialkot Awards and PLS Awards. Prominent among the guests were senior journalist and intellectual Khalid Latif, Chairman Sialkot Art and Culture Centre; educationist Prof Dr Abdul Shakoor Sial; senior lawyer Shahid Mir, Advocate Supreme Court; social figure Sufi Abdul Jalil (Chacha Cricket); and businessman Line Tahir Hussain.
Addressing the gathering, District President PLS Prof Muhammad Arshad welcomed the guests, while General Secretary M Abid Advocate highlighted the objectives of the society and its role in promoting literature and culture.
Lifetime Achievement Awards were presented to Khalid Latif, Prof Dr Abdul Shakoor Sial, Shahid Mir Advocate, Dr Khurram Anwar Khawaja and Sufi Abdul Jalil in recognition of their long-standing services in their respective fields.
The Fakhr-e-Sialkot Awards were conferred upon journalists, professionals and social workers including Junaid Aftab (Daily Jang), Parvez Bajwa (Daily Nawa-i-Waqt), Mian Muhammad Ashfaq (24 News), Muhammad Usman Iqbal (Neo News), Dr Zulfiqar Ali Bhatti (Red News), Malik Sajid Awan Advocate, M Abid Advocate, Line Tahir Hussain, Khayyam Tariq, Siddique Haider, Ghulam Abbas, Muhammad Ashraf Manzar, Rana Muhammad Asif, Hafiz Khalid Mahmood, Yaseen Mughal, Dr Sabina Owais Awan, Zahid Mahmood Khan, Dr Ahsan Ayub Walana and Abdul Wahab.
The PLS Awards were awarded to a large number of writers and poets, including Ashfaq Niaz, Prof Asghar Sudai, Dr Akbar Ali Ghazi, Akhtar Cheema, Nasir Ahmed Bhalli, Rehman Amjad Murad, Iqbal Ahmed Sajid, Maqbool Ahmed Shakir, Asif Ali Alvi, Muhammad Anees Tariq, Sufi Hafiz Ahmed Qadri Qalandri, Ejaz Azaai, Syed Adeed, Khansa Saeed, Subia Rajput, Rifaat Waheed, Prof Asim Bukhari, Muhammad Yasir Niazi, and several others for their published books and literary work.
An honorary award was presented to Syeda Muskan Gilani for media coverage on 14 News. Speaking on the occasion, Patron-in-Chief PLS Shahid Mir Advocate appreciated the efforts of the organisers. Singer Ghulam Abbas also performed during the ceremony.
The event concluded with a luncheon hosted in honour of the guests.
