Mahoor Shehzad and Murad Ali crowned champions at national badminton championship

Pakistan WAPDA’s Mahoor Shehzad and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Murad Ali produced outstanding performances to clinch the singles titles at the Buraq 62nd National Badminton Championship while WAPDA players also dominated the doubles events.
The closing ceremony was attended by Director General Sports Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Tashfeen Haider, President Pakistan Badminton Federation Wajid Ali Chaudhry and CEO Buraq Ali Haider Babakhel as chief guests who distributed prizes among the players. Senior Vice President of the Pakistan Badminton Federation Tayyab Sohail, Secretary General Raja Asghar, President Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Badminton Association Bilal Khan, Secretary General Mian Sadaqat Shah and other dignitaies were also present on the occasion.
Organized by the Pakistan Badminton Federation in collaboration with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Badminton Association, the 62nd National Badminton Championship was held at the Qayyum Sports Complex, Peshawar and concluded successfully.
In the men’s singles final, defending champion Murad Ali of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa successfully retained his title by defeating Pakistan Pak Army MuqeetTahir in straight sets. In the semifinals, Muqeet Tahir outplayed Pakistan Army’s Raja Zulqarnain Haider in a tough three-game contest, winning 14-21, 22-20, and 21-12, while Murad Ali defeated WAPDA’s Muhammad Ali Larosh 21-15 and 21-12.
In the women’s singles final, Mahoor Shehzad defeated her WAPDA teammate Ghazala Siddiq in straight sets to lift the championship title. Earlier in the semifinals, Ghazala Siddiq overcame Zubaira Islam 21-10 and 21-15, while Mahoor Shehzad defeated Pakistan Army’s Amara Ishtiaq 21-13 and 21-08 to book her place in the final.
The women’s doubles title was claimed by Pakistan WAPDA’s Zubaira Islam and SNGPL’s Imama Usman, who defeated WAPDA’s Ghazala Siddiq and Pakistan Army’s Palwasha Basheer 21-13 and 21-12 in the final.
In the mixed doubles final, Pakistan WAPDA’s Muhammad Ali Larosh and Zubaira Islam defeated Pakistan Army’s Shoaib Riaz and Elah Tariq 21-15 and 21-16 to secure the championship.
In the men’s doubles event, Pakistan Army’s Raja Muhammad Hasnain and Raja Zulqarnain clinched the title by defeating WAPDA’s Muhammad Ali Larosh and Muhammad Adnan in straight sets. In the semifinals, the Army pair defeated WAPDA’s Owais Zahid and Zaneen Javed 21-11 and 21-10, while the WAPDA duo edged past Army’s Rai Abdul Mannan and Yasir Ali in a thrilling contest, winning 21-14, 15-21, and 21-17.
