Peshawar Region clinches first position with 189 medals; Malakand secures second with 97, Mardan finishes third with 85 medals

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Under-21 Games concluded successfully, with athletes from Peshawar Region delivering an outstanding performance to claim overall first position by winning a total of 189 medals, including 124 gold, 43 silver, and 22 bronze.
Malakand Region finished second with a total of 97 medals (18 gold, 31 silver, and 48 bronze), while Mardan Region secured third place with 85 medals (14 gold, 26 silver, and 45 bronze).
Kohat Region was awarded the Fair Play Trophy in recognition of exemplary sportsmanship.
During the Games, Advisor to the Chief Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Taj Muhammad Tarand, Director General Sports Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Tashfeen Haider, and Additional DG Sports Rashida Ghaznavi, along with other officials, visited various venues and distributed cash prizes and trophies among the athletes.
In the overall standings, Dera Ismail Khan Region finished fourth with 65 medals (14 gold, 19 silver, 32 bronze). Hazara Region secured fifth position with 104 medals (13 gold, 36 silver, 55 bronze), while Bannu Region claimed sixth place with 84 medals (12 gold, 27 silver, 45 bronze). Kohat Region stood seventh, winning 77 medals (12 gold, 24 silver, 41 bronze).
It is noteworthy that more than 5,000 male and female athletes from seven regions across the province participated in the Under-21 Games. The event featured 18 women’s sports and 38 men’s sports.
The mega event was inaugurated by Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sohail Afridi at the Peshawar Sports Complex.
The Games also included special events such as Standing Cricket for persons with disabilities and competitions for short-statured athletes, highlighting inclusivity and equal opportunities in sports.
