In a significant development in the high-profile Dr. Warda kidnapping and murder case, the main accused, Shamrez, was killed during a police encounter in Mira Rehmat Khan, within the limits of Nawan City,Abbottabad, said police.
The operation was conducted by a police team that included SHO Cantt, SHO Nawan City, and other personnel, aiming to apprehend Shamrez.
During the encounter, Shamrez was reportedly shot dead by his own accomplices, while two other suspects managed to escape under the cover of darkness.
Police recovered a pistol with cartridges from the scene.
Special teams have been formed to trace the fleeing suspects, and a case has been registered for further legal action. The body of Shamrez has been shifted to Ayub Teaching Hospital for postmortem.
DPO Abbottabad Haroon Rashid Khan later briefed the media about the investigation during an emergency press conference at the DPO office.
He termed the encounter a major development in the ongoing case.
Earlier, an accused named Pervez had confessed to the crime, and the police had filed an appeal in the High Court for the extradition and custody of other accused.
During the investigation, police recovered substantial evidence, including gold from Waheed Bala, husband of the alleged mastermind Ridda Jadoon, 10 receipts, the murder weapon, a rope used to strangle Dr. Warda, and cheques worth Rs 12.3 million.
The accused also helped identify the crime scene and the locations where the murder plan was hatched.
Investigators revealed that the initial plan to kidnap and kill Dr. Warda was made at Waheed Bala’s house, followed by further planning at his shop and later at Sheikh Dheri, where Shamrez, Nadeem, and Parvez finalized the plan.
The investigation team presented all collected evidence and witnesses in court as part of the ongoing legal proceedings.
The body of Dr. Warda Mushtaq, a doctor at the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital Abbottabad, was recovered on the night of December 4 from a forest in Lari Banota, following information provided by her friend and accomplices.
The discovery brought a tragic conclusion to the case of the doctor’s mysterious disappearance.
During police interrogation, the detained suspects confessed that they had kidnapped Dr. Warda, later killed her, and buried her body in a pit in the forest.
One of the accused, Pervez, led investigators to the burial site, where the body was recovered and sent for post-mortem examination.
The investigation into the case remains ongoing, with authorities pursuing all leads to apprehend additional suspects involved in the crime.
