A large-scale anti-encroachment operation has been launched in Dera Ismail Khan to remove illegal structures built along the banks of the Indus River, under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Ismail Khan, a handout said.
The campaign began from Daryaband Road, targeting structures violating the KP River Protection Act and falling within the right-of-way (ROW) of the road.
According to the statement the operation was being conducted in phases and was personally supervised by the Deputy Commissioner, with Additional Deputy Commissioner (General), Assistant Commissioner D.I. Khan, Assistant Commissioner Darazinda, Tehsildar Dera, and officers from the TMO, Irrigation, Communication and Works departments, as well as the police.
During the campaign, both permanent and temporary encroachments were removed. Key permanent structures demolished. In total, 22 shops, two hotels, and two commercial plazas were cleared.
Land valued at Rs. 28.6 million was reclaimed from permanent encroachments, while temporary encroachments on land worth Rs. 33.5 million were also removed.
Authorities stated that the operation will continue with full determination and a consistent strategy in the coming days to ensure the complete elimination of illegal encroachments and to safeguard the land, lives, and property of those residing along the Indus River.
