Under the banner of the sports department of the merged tribal district, a colorful “Major Games” sports gala was inaugurated here at the sports complex, Jamrud, on Tuesday. On the opening session of the event beside Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Noorul Haq Qadri as chief guest, Secretary Sports KP Amir Sultan Tareen,Member Provincial Assembly Shafiq Sher Afridi,Director General Sports KP Khalid Khan,Additional Deputy Commissioner, Khyber Noorwali Khan, Director Sports merged districts Pir Abdullah Shah,district Sports Officer, Khyber Rahidgul Molagori,administrative and security officials, local political and tribal leaders and large numbers of sports lovers were among the attendants.
The Federal Minister formally opened the games gala that will continue from February 22 to February 27, 2022. As many as 3631 players of different games including Football, Volleyball, Kabadi, Hockey, Basketball and Athletics from merged districts of Khyber, Mohmand, Bajaur, Aurakzai, South Waziristan, North Waziristan, Kurram, subdivisions Tank, Peshawar, Kohat, Dera Ismael Khan, Bannu, Lakki will compete in games of Football, Volleyball, Kabadi, Hockey, Basketball and Athletics in different grounds in Peshawar.
Players of different teams, dressed in color sports kits, saluted the chief guest while passing in front of dais.
Traditional dance and culture show was also presented that enthralled the audience.
Speaking on the occasion Noorul Haq Qadri said that the purpose of arranging the games is to expose that peace has been restored in merged areas. He maintained that the government is sincere to adopt all necessary measures to make the merged tribal districts develop and for the purpose 2204 million rupees for the development of sports facilities in merged districts.
