The Mardan police have registered an FIR against City Mayor Himayatullah Mayar and 43 leaders and workers of the Awami National Party (ANP) for allegedly delivering speeches against state institutions and the government, as well as for displaying firearms during a recent gathering.
According to police sources, the FIR was lodged at the Hoti Police Station on the complaint of Station House Officer (SHO) Riaz Khan. The report stated that on September 6, ANP office bearers and workers from various areas of Mardan gathered armed at the party’s district office under the leadership of City Mayor Himayatullah Mayar.
The FIR further mentioned that during the gathering, participants delivered speeches against state institutions and the government, issued threats, and raised provocative slogans. It added that the participants also brandished firearms, and videos of the incident were later shared on social media, causing fear and concern among the public.
Sources said that a case was registered against 43 ANP leaders and workers, including Mayor Himayatullah Mayar, under sections 500, 501, 505, 506, 120-B, 504, 13, 15, and 16 of the Arms Act. Police have initiated an investigation, though no arrests had been made until the filing of this report.
