Mardan women uni, PDF sign MoU

Women University Mardan (WUM) and Pakistan Development Foundation (PDF) on Thursday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to enhance the capacity of the students and award deserving and underprivileged students of the university.
According to a statement, the conferences, training and workshops to increase the capacity of the students and teachers, research based activities will be the part of the agreement.
Under the agreement, the two institutions will establish a Business Incubation Center (BIC) at the WUM, in which women entrepreneurs will be trained and supported in starting businesses. The BIC will not only support students of the varsity but the wider community of district Mardan in their entrepreneurial enterprise.
The agreement was signed by PDF Chairman, Muhammad Bilal Sethi and WUM Acting Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr. Safia Ahmed. Deputy Director Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC), Halima Ikram and Campus Coordinator, Muhammad Kamran were also present on this occasion.
PDF chief, Muhammad Bilal Sethi said that this agreement will further enhance the shared efforts of PDF and WUM to empower women through education and research.
He added that knowledge and skills are the basic right of women. Educational institutions should play a role in increasing the trend of business among students, he added. Sethi remarked that in times when there was saturation in the job market the option of business and entrepreneurship for women was vital.
Vice-Chancellor Safia Ahmed said that the model of public-private partnership is indispensable for the improvement of teaching and learning processes in universities. She said that the establishment of the BIC will promote entrepreneurship among female students and women of Mardan, which is auspicious for their future.
