Meeting reviews internship opportunities for students enrolled in BS programs

A high-level meeting was held on Thursday in the committee room of the Higher Education Department (HED), chaired by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Higher Education, Meena Khan Afridi.
The meeting focused on maximizing internship opportunities for students currently enrolled in various BS programs at government colleges and recent graduates. Senior officials, including the Special Secretary for Higher Education, Additional Secretaries, Director Colleges, and concerned officers from the higher education and youth affairs departments, attended the meeting. Additional Director Colleges HED gave a detailed briefing on various initiatives aimed at providing internship opportunities to students.
In the briefing it was said that discussion has been conducted with industrialists, government institutions, and non-governmental organizations in Peshawar, Mardan, and Hazara regarding creation of most internship opportunities for college students.
Furthermore it was also said that positive response was received from these sectors, and similar visits to other districts are ongoing to expand this initiative across the province.
The provincial minister appreciated the efforts of the HED for creating internship opportunities and directed concerned officials to ensure that mandatory internships are implemented in accordance with the Higher Education Commission’s policy.
He also instructed that a memorandum of understanding be signed between the Higher Education and Youth Affairs Departments to facilitate internship opportunities for students from both merged tribal districts and settled areas.
Similarly, he also emphasized the need to create internship opportunities in disciplines such as Artificial Intelligence and emerging technologies and for this purpose, he directed the Higher Education and Youth Affairs Departments to collaborate with the University of Engineering and Technology (UET).
The meeting also discussed other key aspects related to internship opportunities. The provincial minister said that providing internships to students during their studies and after graduation would not only offer them financial benefits but also equip them with valuable skills, adding that these skills would significantly help them in their professional careers.
