Met office predicts rains, snowfall for upper KP’s regions

PESHAWAR: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) on Wednesday predicted snowfall and more rains in the northern districts of the province. According to PDMA, the Regional Met Office Peshawar has informed that the central and upper parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will receive a westerly weather system. It added that rain-thunder showers accompanied by hailstorm and gusty wind is likely to occur over Bunner, Malakand, Swat, Dir, Timergarh, Abbottabad, Haripur, Mansehra, Battagram, Torghar and other related areas. Districts including Mardan, Charsadda, Kohat, Khyber, Orakzai, Bajaur, Mohmand and Nowshera may also receive rainfall in the next 24 hours. As per the prediction of the Peshawar Met Office, the rainfall in the above-mentioned regions is expected to continue from today (Wednesday) intermittently till Sunday. In light of the prediction and the current dire situation of the province, PDMA has issued a letter to the district administration, asking them to take pre-emptive measures. “Snowfall at upper areas of the province may cause closure of roads and temperature may be decreased below freezing level at some upper parts of the province,” PDMA added.
