PESHAWAR
Former Nazim and General Secretary of Hayatabad qaumi Jirga Sirajul Haq Yousafzai said that prolonged and unscheduled power outages in different areas of Peshawar district has adversely disturbed the routine life besides creating water shortage and suspending business activities. Record power outages have been noticed in Hayat Abad Danish Abad areas of Peshawar as the electricity has disappeared for 16 to 18 hours.
The residents belonging to Hassan Garhi, Palosi, Garhi Malik Ahmad, Garhi Loharan, Garhi Machin and Landi Arbab badly suffered and have complained that they are treated unjustifiably as the duration of power suspension is higher than other areas.
The rural areas are also confronted with a severe problem of water shortage as most of the tube wells are out of order to provide water supply to the residents.
The student also badly suffered in this situation as their bachelors exams have started while preparing for medical and engineering entrance tests. Students have also complained against PESCO for disturbing their studies.
Despite the repeated directives to the PESCO board of directors, no step has been taken to end the unscheduled power suspension. The business activities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are also at a standstill and people have been forced to use Generator for tailoring and computer purposes.
Similarly, the residents of district Swat, Shangla and Buner are also facing hardships owing to 20-hour-long power loadshedding in their areas. The power supply remains suspended for several hours without any prior notice from the authorities, which has paralyzed the routine business activities.
The residents complained that they are spending sleepless nights due to hours-long load shedding and raising temperature. Duration of load shedding in most of the areas was 15 to 20 hours per day.
He told them that long duration and unscheduled load shedding has disturbed their routine life and it is very difficult for them to actively work in the offices after spending sleepless nights. They demanded of the government to take immediate steps to end the loadshedding as in the coming days.
It is worth mentioning here that the duration of loadshedding is increasing with each passing day while the authorities concerned have no strategy to tackle this problem.
The PESCO authorities are looting the residents with both hands and issuing new meters but on the other hand they lack strategy to manage power outages.
The consumers have also protested against inflated bills as on the other hand they are facing skyrocketing prices of other edible items and medicines. They said how they pay the electricity bills when someone is living in a rented house.
