PESHAWAR
Minister for Local Government and Rural Development Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sardar Faisal Amin Gandapur on Thursday eulogized the whole hearted cooperation of the local bodies with the security agencies in the peaceful holding of Ashura Muharram and proper arrangements of sanitation, water supply and lighting in and around the Imambargahs, Majalis processions and congregations.
He was presiding over a review meeting related to discussion on peaceful completion of Ashura Muharram and the arrangements of the municipalities at the Local Government Secretariat Peshawar.
Besides Secretary LG Syed Zaheerul Islam Shah, Secretary Local Council Board and Director General LG, heads of various TMAs, WSSCs, area development authorities also participated and presented their performance reports on sanitation, drainage and night lighting arrangements for Ashura Muharram.
The Local Government Minister lauded the performance of the local bodies of the whole province including the merged districts in this regard and expressed the hope that arrangements for the Diamond Jubilee celebrations of Independence Day will also be completed with the same spirit and enthusiasm. Faisal Amin Gandapur especially praised the outstanding performance of Peshawar City Metropolitan and TMA Dera Ismail Khan saying that he himself witnessed it during his visits along with the district administration and top police officials in connection with Ashura arrangements.
“I saw the best view of cleanliness and lighting in all the streets and markets of these cities during the inspection of the Imam Bargahs and Majlis processions routes”, he added. He said he also received very little public complaints from other areas of the province as compared to earlier which is very welcoming. He however strictly urged the local government officials that instead of sitting in their offices and believing in the reports of all the best, they should themselves visit the field along with the municipal officials and practically service the citizens.
The Local Government Minister said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Mehmood Khan, the provincial government is pursuing an exemplary governance as well as reward and punishment policy under which municipal officers and officials who sincerely performed their duties and show public friendliness are encouraged in every way. However, he said, those who neglect their basic obligation of public service will not be spared and must be reprimanded.
