Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Communication and Works (C&W) Shakeel Khan quit the cabinet on Friday by submitting his resignation to the Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur.
Shakeel Khan was elected to the KP Assembly from constituency PK-18 Malakand in the last general elections.
He served as a minister during the PTI government led by former Chief Minister Mehmood Khan from 2018 till 2023.
Mr Khan’s resignation from the Gandapur cabinet showed that differences have erupted in the PTI government in KP.
Shakil Khan said that he can’t go forward anymore with the rampant corruption in the provincial government.
The minister has sent his resignation on whatsapp to the CM KP.
Khan indicated that he would provide further details regarding his resignation during the upcoming KP Assembly session.
He had previously accused the Chief Minister of interfering in his ministry and obstructing his efforts to address widespread corruption and mismanagement in the province.
In a statement issued here, Governor KP Faisal Karim Kundi has signed the summary for the de-notification of Provincial Minister for Communications and Works, Shakeel Ahmad Khan.
After the resignation of C&W minister, Governor Kundi has alleged that corruption in the province had reached unprecedented levels, with specific rates now applied to postings and transfers. Kund accused the PTI government of dismantling accountability institutions, such as the Ehtisaab Commission, to protect its corrupt practices. Governor KP claimed that the government’s focus had shifted to removing obstacles to corruption rather than addressing the issue itself.
