Monsoon spell in KP expected to continue until July 17: PDMA

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has said that there are more chances of widespread monsoon activity across most districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from July 11 to July 17, with intermittent heavy to very heavy rains, strong winds, and thunderstorms expected throughout the period.
Districts likely to be affected including Dir, Swat, Chitral, Kohistan, Malakand, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Kohat, Karak, Bannu, Tank, Lakki Marwat, Dera Ismail Khan, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Waziristan, Orakzai, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Mardan, Swabi, Hangu, and Kurram.
The PDMA has warned of the risk of flooding in local streams, rivers, and canals, particularly from July 14 to 17, in Galiyat, Mansehra, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Buner, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Nowshera, Swabi, and Mardan. Landslides are also likely in hilly and mountainous areas.
The authority stated that district administrations of the province have been instructed to take all precautionary measures and remain on high alert. Rescue 1122 and relief teams have been directed to mobilize resources in advance and remain on standby. Traffic management plans should be enforced at sensitive locations, particularly on national and provincial highways.
PDMA confirmed that its Emergency Operation Center is fully functional. Citizens are encouraged to report any untoward incidents or emergencies by calling the helpline at 1700.
