Advisor to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister on Finance and Interprovincial Coordination, Muzzammil Aslam, has highlighted discrepancies between the province’s surplus budget and federal accounts.
According to an official handout, the CM aide on finance stated that “KP’s surplus budget stands at approximately Rs 169 billion, while the federal government has reduced this figure to Rs 86 billion.”
He stated that despite the federal government withholding development funds for merged districts and under-allocating ongoing expenditures, the KP government successfully generated a Rs 169 billion surplus. Additionally, the province contributed an extra Rs. 40 billion to pension and gratuity funds, which, he claimed, the federal government has incorrectly classified as expenditures.
Muzzammil Aslam also pointed out inconsistencies in the statistics reported by the federal Ministry of Finance for Punjab and KP.
He said federal figures indicate a decline in the reserves of KP’s government institutions, while the Accountant General’s report on Punjab shows a decrease in financial expenditures, leading to statistical discrepancies. Aslam further noted that this suggests Punjab has faced major audit objections amounting to Rs 180 billion.
