The nanbais (bread makers) have been divided in to two sections as one group announced to go on strike while the other distant itself from such activity over the price of roti (bread) here on Tuesday.
In Peshawar the price of 135gm roti was fixed at Rs 15 while the protesting nanbais were demanding the sale of 110gm roti at Rs 20. The issue led one of the groups to stage a protest outside the provincial assembly hall while the other group totally kept itself at distance from the protest.
President Pakhtunkhwa Nanbai Association, Rahim Safi while talking to media persons here said the sale of roti on the price fixed by the government was not possible for them adding the price of wheat flour was continuously increasing while the fairs and gas prices have also been raised. He added that in this regard a protest would be staged in front of the assembly hall.
On the other hand, provincial president of Nanbai Association, Khaista Gull and General Secretary Jahanzeb Khan said satisfactory dialogue has been made with the district administration and nanbais will not join the protesting camp.
Meanwhile, the Additional Assistant Commissioner (AAC) Syeda Zainab Naqvi while taking action on public complaints and directives of DC Peshawar Shafi Ullah Khan on Tuesday arrested 15 nanbais for selling low-weight bread.
During inspection of tandoors at Arbab Road, Bilal Lane, Jahangir Abad and Old Bara Road on public complaints regarding sale of under-weight roti, the AAC found 15 nanbais, selling roti on Rs 20 with less weight.
On the occasion many of the nanbais were fined on the spot. She directed the nanbais to sale bread with prescribed weight and rate of Rs 15 otherwise stern legal action would be initiated against them.
