PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has issued 249,939 arms licences in the province during the last seven years, according to official documents.
The documents with Daily lead Pakistan revealed that Swat district tops the list where citizens have been issued 21088 arms licences from 2013 till date.
Swat was followed by district Peshawar with 20,961 licences and then Lakki Marwat district with 18,226 licences.
Moreover, 14,800 licences were issued in Charsadda, 14,984 in Karak, over 16,000 in Kohat, 12,000 in Bannu, more than 15,000 in Haripur, 12,000 in DI Khan and 10,000 in Swabi district.
According to police, licensed firearms are rarely used in criminal activities because those involved prefer to use illegal arms to prevent identification.
