NEPRA reserves decision on govt application seeking hike in electricity tariff

ISLAMABAD: NEPRA having completed hearing on government application seeking hike in electricity tariff by Rs 7.50 per unit has reserved its decision. Chairman heard government application in regard to enhancement in power tariff Monday. Power division gave briefing to NEPRA. NEPRA said devaluation of rupee and capacity payments are major reason behind hike in power tariff. How much increase has to be made for what slab is job of government. This is political and administrative decision which has to be made by the government. NEPRA has done its job and it has made its recommendation. Member Sindh NEPRA Rafiq Sheikh while expressing his helplessness questioned which is law that empowers government to determine subsidy. Which law gives power to government that how much subsidy has to be given to what slab. On question from member NEPRA, Power division authorities told government will provide subsidy to the tune of Rs 158 billion to the electricity consumers. No increase in tariff will be made for the consumers using electricity upto 200 units. ONLINE
