The annual Sports Gala organized by New Islamia High School and College Peshawar began with a grand ceremony at Thamas Khan Football Stadium Peshawar on Saturday. Over 500 students are participating in six different sports events.
The chief guests, Member of Provincial Assembly Malik Tariq Awan and Chairman Peshawar Board Nasrullah, officially inaugurated the Sports Gala by lighting the torch. Along with them, New Islamia School’s CEO Iftikhar Liaquat Ali, Administrator Muhammad Amjad, Academic In-charge Waheed, and many teachers and parents were also in attendance.
The event began with the recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by the national anthem. Athletes presented a spectacular march past, and the children showcased excellent performances in Chitrali dance and Telyboz, earning applause from the audience.
In his address, chief guest Malik Tariq Awan encouraged the students to engage in sports, highlighting the importance of moving away from mobile phones and involving the younger generation in positive, physical activities.
He stressed that sports are essential for both physical and mental development and emphasized the need for teachers and parents to create opportunities for children to participate in healthy activities.
Administrator Muhammad Amjad stated that New Islamia High School and College has been organizing the Sports Gala annually, with hundreds of students taking part in various competitions.
This year, over 500 students are competing in six sports, with six school teams—Tiger, Black Wolf, Warriors, Defender, Markhor, and Champion—battling for victory.
CEO Iftikhar Liaquat Ali, addressing the gathering, explained that the Sports Gala aims to provide students with both mental and physical recreation, foster a healthy school environment, and bring students closer together.
He emphasized that such activities help build self-confidence in students and prepare them for provincial and national level competitions. He also thanked the guests and participants for their presence and highlighted the purpose behind the event.
