No compromise on cultural heritage: Justice sheikh Azmat

If you have any objection about transparency of project then you should file another petition in the court.

Justice Ejaz Afzal of Supreme Court has remarked, “Protecting historical heritage is our responsibility too. He further remarked “I visited Shalimar Bagh as student in 1973. I watched the other historical buildings. There were no constructions around Shalimar Bagh in 1973. There are heaps of constructions around Shalimar Bagh today. Has not the beauty been affected due to constructions in the left and right side and behind and in front of the garden
Justice sheikh Azmat remarked, there will be no compromise on cultural heritage. Lahore city is our city too. Development of Lahore city is also dear to us. But no damage to historical heritage is tolerable too. Tell us an acceptable solution on this matter.
SC five members larger bench, presided over by Justice Ejaz Afzal and comprising Justice Sheikh Azmat, Justice Maqbool Baqar, Justice Ejaz ul Ahsan and Justice Mazhar Aalam Main Khail took up the Orange line metro train project case for hearing on Friday.
During the course of hearing Azhar Siddique, counsel for civil society took the plea that no institution has been assigned the responsibility to protect historical heritage. Appointment of NESPAK as consultant in the project has not been made in transparent manner.
Justice Ejaz Afzal remarked “before court case is not about transparency in project.
Justice Ejaz ul Ahsan remarked “the case before the court is about historical heritage and vibration of train.” Justice Ejaz Afzal remarked “If you have any objection about transparency of project then you should file another petition in the court. Azhar Siddique said board members of NESPAK are partial.
Justice Ejaz Afzal remarked “ you are attacking credibility of NESPAK.
Azhar Siddique said there is madrassah of Hafiz Saeed in front of Chouburji. Track has not been diverted to the seminary of Hafiz Saeed.
Justice Ejaz Afzal remarked is madrassah of Hafiz Saeed historical heritage. Azhar Siddique said the project will affect environment.
Justice Ejaz ul Ahsan inquired “tell us what impact the environment will leave on historical heritage.
Azhar Siddique said environment in fact is not historical heritage. Kamil Khan Mumtaz said metro train be run underground from Zeb un Nisa site to Chouburji.
Counsel for NESPAK said several steps have been taken to overcome vibration. Monitoring of the project will be conducted for 12 weeks after the train is run. We will stop train if vibration is excessive. Train will be run after taking more safety measures.
The hearing of the case was adjourned till Monday.
