LHC directs AG to appear today after obtaining directives from Governor Punjab
LAHORE
Lahore High Court (LHC) has directed Advocate General (AG) to seek directives from governor Punjab in connection with the matter of taking oath from Hamza Shahbaz as Chief Minister (CM) Punjab and appear before it.
The court summoned AG for assistance besides adjourning the hearing of the case till today (Friday).
The petition regarding the matter of oath taking from Hamza Shahbaz as CM Punjab came up for hearing before Chief Justice (CJ) LHC Thursday.
Ahsan Bhone, president Supreme Court Bar and Khalid Ishaq counsel for Hamza Shahbaz appeared in the court.
Counsel for Hamza Shahbaz argued during the hearing of the case when government resigns a new chief minister should come immediately. But the largest province of the country is running without government. The oath is not being administered to the elected chief minister in defiance of the constitution.
He further argued it is constitutional obligation of the governor to call chief minister for oath taking. Governor is only told about the election of chief minister and then oath taking takes place. Deputy speaker has informed governor about the election of chief minister.
The court while issuing notice to AG for assistance under 27-A has directed him to obtain stance of governor Punjab and appear before it today (Friday).
Ahsan Bhon advocate requested the court the case be fixed for hearing at one pm today. Additional advocate general Punjab is present here. Please hear the case today.
CJ LHC remarked you keep on sitting for 10 days in home. If court says let the system run then you don’t allow the system to run. Let the judicial system run and come here tomorrow.
