The district administration of Peshawar has launched a strict crackdown on overpricing, underweight roti, and poor hygiene during the first eight days of Ramadan, arresting 405 shopkeepers and sealing 935 business outlets.
Authorities also registered 345 cases, imposed fines of Rs 1.966 million, and issued warnings to 2,859 shopkeepers across the city.
Operations were carried out in key commercial and residential areas including Inner City, Karkhano Market, Tehkal, Badaber, Ring Road, Sarband, Hayatabad, Dalzak Road, Faqirabad, Gulbahar, Kohat Road, Charsadda Road, GT Road, University Road, Saddar, Namak Mandi, Ramdas, Matni, Chamkani, and surrounding localities. Inspections covered butchers, bakeries, grocery stores, vegetable and fruit vendors, milk sellers, and hotels.
Deputy Commissioner Peshawar, Captain (retd) Sanaullah Khan, said official price lists are issued daily in fruit and vegetable markets, and strict compliance is enforced. “All shopkeepers must follow the official price list, maintain proper hygiene, sell quality products, and avoid selling underweight roti, failing which legal action will be taken,” he said.
Price monitoring desks have been established in various markets, with officials overseeing daily operations and registering public complaints on the spot. The administration urged citizens to report violations through the helpline 0919211338, assuring prompt action.
Captain Sanaullah emphasized that the district administration remains committed to providing relief, controlling inflation, and ensuring fair market practices, with operations continuing throughout Ramadan.
