Premier expresses concern over the slow pace of CEO appointments in power distribution companies

Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif has said overbilling is not acceptable at any cost and stern action will be taken against the officers involved in overbilling.
PM has directed that work of installation of smart meters be completed as soon as possible so that transparency could be brought in billing system.
A review meeting in regard to performance of power distribution companies was held here Saturday under PM Shehbaz Sharif.
Expressing concern over slow paced process of appointment of Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of power distribution companies he said the process of appointment of CEOs in transparent way be completed as soon as possible.
Appointments be made in Power Distribution Companies on merit. No negligence on transparency in the process of appointments will be tolerated. All the resources be utilized to achieve target set by NEPRA. Mat0ters related to Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO), Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) and Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) came under discussion during the meeting. . Detailed briefing was given to the participants of meeting on performance of LESCO, PESCO and FESCO. Federal ministers Ahad Khan Cheema, Sardar Owais Ahmad Khan Leghari, state ministers Shaza Fatima, Ali Pervaiz Malik and senior officials attended the meeting.
It was told in the briefing recovery of LESCO remained 96.82 percent, recovery of PESCO, 87.98 percent and recovery of FESCO remained 97. 57 percent till November in the fiscal year 2024-25.
LESCO has to install 223365 three phase meters and out of them it has installed 49470 so far. PESCO has to install 152559 smart meters and out of which 51173 meters have been installed. FESCO has to install 192311 and it has installed 11276 meters so far.
The participants of meeting were informed that free access to all telephone operators of help line 118 is being ensured in connection with all complaints related to electricity. Facilities of call centre, E. Mails, websites and mobile and web services of NEPRA are available to consumers of LESCO, PESCO and FESCO for redressal of complaints and other services.
It was told in the meeting that 99.2 percent complaints in respect of LESCO, 99.9 percent in respect of PESCO and 99.7 percent in respect of FESCO were redressed till November of this fiscal year.
PM Shehbaz Sharif directed that process of installation of smart meters be completed as soon as possible so that transparency could be brought in billing system. Concrete steps be taken to prevent pilferage of electricity, he directed.
