Speaker Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Babar Salim Swati and Provincial Health Minister Khaliq-ur-Rehman co-chaired a key follow-up meeting on the implementation of recommendations from the previous review of King Abdullah Teaching Hospital, Mansehra, and other District Headquarter (DHQ) hospitals.
The meeting was attended by Secretary Health Shahid Ullah Khan, DG Health Services Shahid Younus, Regional Director Health Services Hazara Division, CEO Sehat Card Plus KP, Director IMU KP, District Health Officer Mansehra, Medical Superintendent King Abdullah Teaching Hospital, and other officials.
The session began with a detailed review of progress on grievances and issues highlighted in the previous meeting. Participants noted substantial developments, with major concerns being addressed. The Health Minister assured that all vacant posts are in the process of being filled, aiming to resolve human resource shortages promptly.
Khaliq-ur-Rehman emphasized that King Abdullah Teaching Hospital is a major healthcare facility and instructed the Medical Superintendent to ensure honest performance, strict monitoring, and availability of all essential medicines so that patients are not asked to purchase them externally.
Adequate staff, doctors, and 24/7 radiology services, including operationalization of the MRI machine, were prioritized.
The meeting also highlighted that the Sehat Card Plus program is fully functional, providing patients with accessible healthcare services.
The Health Minister stated that a significant number of doctors are being hired on a contract basis to overcome staff shortages, and that Medical Superintendents will serve as the focal point for reporting operational issues in their respective hospitals.
Additionally, the Health Minister held a separate meeting with the Deputy Speaker to discuss healthcare issues in Upper and Lower Chitral.
He confirmed that funding and site issues for the Nursing College in Booni have been resolved and assured prompt action to address shortages of hospitals and medical staff in the region, pledging full support for improved healthcare facilities in the constituency.
