Pacer Hunain, spinner Abdullah steer Gomal University to 91 runs win in Cricket

Right-arm pacer Hunain Ahmad and left-arm spinner Abdullah steered Gomal University to 91 runs victory against Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan in the final of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inter-Varsity Games Men Cricket event played at Gen Ihsan Sports Complex Mardan on Monday.
Hunain Ahmad, the pacer, took four wickets for 22 runs in his four overs spell while another promising left-arm spinner Abdullah claimed three wickets for 10 runs in his three overs spell and both played a key role in helping Gomal University to victory against strong Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan on their home ground.
It was also surprising that after reaching the final, the Registrar of Gomal University created hurdles by not allowing their team to play the final but despite all hurdles and overnight long bus journey from Dera Ismail Khan the players played like a team wherein every one shown excellent class in batting, bowling and fielding.
Earlier, Gomail University skipper Tawab Hafeez won the toss and elected to bat first by setting up 156 runs target in which middle order Allah Hussain made an elegant knock of 32 runs with three boundaries and one six, opener Fahad made (25) runs including three boundaries, Sheharyar and Sabir Ullah scored 18 runs each. Hubab Khan, Obaid Ullah, Amir Afridi took two wickets each while Shahayar got one wicket.
In reply, for Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan Faiq Khan made 27 runs including three boundaries and one six, and Obaid Ullah scored 23 runs, none of the other batsmen could cross the double figures. Thus Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan bundled out for just 65 runs wherein Right-arm pacer Hunain Ahmad and left-arm spinner Abdullah steered Gomal University to 91 runs victory.
Hunain Ahmad, the right-arm pacer, took four wickets for 22 runs in his four overs spell while another promising left-arm spinner Abdullah claimed three wickets for 10 runs in his three overs spell guided the team to a comfortable victory.
Left-arm spinner Abdullah with these three wickets overall grabbed 14 wickets in the Championship and was declared as player of the Championship while Hunain was later on declared as Man of the Match. Member Provincial Assembly Zahir Shah Toro, Director General Sports Khalid Khan gave away trophies and cash prizes.
The winner was awarded Rs. 100,000 as cash prize while the runners-up Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan was awarded Rs. 50,000 as cash prize and trophy.
