The shutdown of Pakistan–Afghanistan border crossings since October 12 has led to a sharp contraction in trade flows, according to sources in the Ministry of Commerce.
On a month-to-month basis, Pak-Afghan bilateral trade also dropped by 36 percent in October compared with September. Ministry data shows that Pakistan’s exports to Afghanistan fell to 59 million dollars in October 2025, down from 81 million dollars in September, reflecting a 28 percent monthly decline.
Year-on-year, exports registered a 55 percent drop, falling from 130 million dollars in October 2024. Imports from Afghanistan showed a similar downward trend. Pakistan imported 55 million dollars worth of goods in October 2025, compared with **96 million dollars in September and 117 million dollars in October 2024, marking a significant slump in inbound trade.
Overall, the total volume of bilateral trade stood at 114 million dollars in October 2025, down from 177 million dollars in September and 247 million dollars in the same month last year.
Sources said the indefinite closure of crossing points due to security concerns has directly contributed to the steep declines, with no indication yet of when normal trade operations will resume.
