PESHAWAR
The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast above-normal rainfall across much of the country during the November 2026-January 2027 period, alongside higher-than-average temperatures, pointing to a relatively warmer and wetter winter, particularly in the northern and northwestern regions.
According to the department’s seasonal outlook for November-December-January (NDJ) 2026-27, the strongest positive rainfall anomalies are expected over Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir and adjoining areas of northern Punjab. The outlook suggests that rainfall is likely to remain near normal across most parts of Balochistan, central and southern Punjab and Sindh.
However, southeastern parts of the country, including Sindh and adjoining areas of Punjab and Balochistan, are expected to receive comparatively limited seasonal precipitation.
The department has also projected above-normal mean temperatures across most parts of Pakistan during the three-month period, with the highest positive temperature anomalies expected over Gilgit-Baltistan.
The forecast indicates that warmer-than-usual conditions could prevail across much of the country, including areas that typically experience colder winter conditions.
The anticipated increase in precipitation over northern and northwestern Pakistan could have implications for agriculture, water resources and seasonal weather patterns.
KP and adjoining mountainous regions are among the areas where the rainfall outlook indicates a more pronounced positive departure from seasonal averages.
The seasonal forecast, however, represents a broad assessment of expected weather patterns and should not be interpreted as a prediction of rainfall on specific dates.
The PMD has advised the public and relevant authorities to remain attentive to its regular weather updates and advisories for more localised and short-term forecasts.
