Karachi, April 17, 2026:
The Pakistan REIT Association (PRA), duly licensed under Section 3 of the Trade Organizations Act, 2013, has been formally incorporated with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) under the Companies Act, 2017.
The Association has been established as a representative body of REIT Management Companies and key stakeholders in Pakistan’s real estate investment trust (REIT) ecosystem. It aims to provide a unified platform to support the development of a structured, transparent, and institutionally driven real estate sector in the country.
According to representatives of the Association, PRA will engage with policymakers and regulators to promote a conducive legal, regulatory, and taxation framework for REITs. The Association also seeks to encourage the transition of real estate activity from informal practices to documented and regulated structures, thereby improving transparency and investor confidence.
The formation of PRA comes at a time when the real estate sector continues to play a critical role in Pakistan’s economy, contributing to employment, capital formation, and the development of essential civic infrastructure including housing, commercial spaces, and public amenities. However, the sector faces structural challenges, including hostile taxation, limited access to formal financing, and regulatory complexities.
PRA is expected to play a facilitative role in addressing these challenges by promoting best practices, supporting market development, and encouraging the introduction of innovative REIT-based investment products. It is also anticipated that the Association will play a key role in regaining investor trust, both domestic and international, and in positioning Pakistan as an attractive destination for institutional and foreign investment in real estate.
The Association also aims to strengthen engagement between industry participants and regulators to enable sustainable growth of the sector.
The incorporation of the Pakistan REIT Association marks an important step towards institutionalizing Pakistan’s real estate market and unlocking its potential as a key driver of economic growth.
