Pakistan’s export of goods and services to Afghanistan witnessed an increase of 6.12 percent during the first eleven months of the fiscal year (2023-24) as compared to the exports of the corresponding period of last year, State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) reported.
The overall exports to Afghanistan were recorded at US $507.935m during July-May (2023-24) against exports of US $478.614m during July-May (2022-23), SBP data revealed. On a year-to-year basis, the exports to Afghanistan also surged by 74.32% from $42.660 million in May 2023, against the exports of $74.369m in May 2024.
Meanwhile, on a month-on-month basis, the exports to Afghanistan surged by 27.67 percent during May 2024 as compared to the exports of $58.248 million in April 2024, the SBP data revealed. Overall Pakistan’s exports to other countries witnessed an increase of 11.31 percent in the first eleven months, from US $25.764 billion to US $28.678 billion, the SBP data revealed.
On the other hand, the imports from Afghanistan into the country during the months under review were recorded at US $10.150 million against US $15.277 million last year, showing a decrease of 33.56 percent in July-May (2023-24). On a year-on-year basis, the imports for Afghanistan witnessed an increase of 112.44 percent from US $1.318 million in May 2023, against the imports of US $2.800 million in May 2024.
On a month-on-month basis, the imports from Afghanistan into the country also witnessed an increase of 194.73 percent during May 2024, as compared to the imports of US $0.950 million during April 2024, according to the data. The overall imports into the country witnessed a decrease of 2.25 per cent, from $49.518 billion to US $48.401 billion, according to the data.
