Pakistan Council of World Religion-Faith Friends has demanded the government to conduct an immediate investigation into Faisalabad’s Jaranwala incident and asked the Punjab government to ensure a peaceful environment for Christian community of the district.
The council, in a statement, said that information coming from Jaranwala, Faisalabad, a distressing incident of desecration and blasphemy against the Holy Quran has occurred there.
In response, the local residents, inflamed by this incident, caused damage not only to religious sites and properties of the minority community but also to government properties.
The truth of the matter may take some time to be established, but both incidents are regrettable and condemnable in the eyes of the Pakistan Ulema Council. Pakistan has detailed, clear, and ambiguous laws regarding blasphemy cases.
Within the presence of these laws, no majority or minority group has the right to resort to violence and destruction in the name of law. Such reactions will not only tarnish Pakistan’s image but also adversely affect our legitimate and legal stance on incidents of blasphemy in countries like Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, and others.
Qari Rohullah Madani, Chairman of the Pakistan Council of World Religions-FF, Saima Mehboob and others members said that such incidents will tarnish the image of the country.
