The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a weather alert forecasting rains accompanied by strong winds, thunderstorms and hailstorms in upper and central districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from May 2 to May 4.
According to the authority, upper districts including Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Kohistan, Buner, Malakand, Battagram, Mansehra and Abbottabad are likely to receive rain with hail, while Peshawar, Mardan, Nowshera, Charsadda, Swabi, Kohat, Kurram, Orakzai, Khyber, Bajaur, Mohmand, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Dera Ismail Khan and Tank are also expected to experience heavy rain and gusty winds.
The PDMA warned of possible landslides in mountainous areas and flooding in rivers and local streams, while urban flooding is likely in low-lying areas of Peshawar, Mardan and Nowshera.
It said strong winds and hailstorms could damage weak structures, electricity poles and solar panels, and advised farmers to take precautionary measures to protect standing crops.
The authority has directed district administrations to take preventive steps, ensure availability of rescue teams and resources, and keep major highways open with alternative routes in place. Relevant departments have also been asked to clear drainage systems to minimise urban flooding.
Tourists have been advised to remain updated about weather conditions and avoid unnecessary travel, while the general public has been urged to stay away from rivers, floodwaters and other vulnerable locations during heavy rains.
The PDMA said its Emergency Operations Centre was fully functional and urged citizens to report any emergency by calling helpline 1700.
