PDMA issues alert on fresh spell of rain, snowfall in KP

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority(PDMA) has asked all district administrations of the province to adopt measures to prevent fatal incidents during a fresh spell of rain and snowfall likely to begin Thursday.
A circular issued by the PMDA’s Provincial Emergency Operations Centre to deputy commissioners of all districts revealed that informed that another intense westerly weather system in the wake of current westerly weather system is likely to enter the southern parts of the province from today(Thursday) and is likely to grip most parts of the province with high moisture feeding from Arabian Sea and produce more rain and snow in the province, till Sunday, the 09th January, 2022.
IT said that under the influence of expected weather system scattered rain and snow over hills of light to moderate intensity is expected in Abbottabad, Haripur, Mansehra, Torghar, Battagram, Kohistan, Chitral, Swat, Shangla, Buner, Malakand, Lower & Upper Dir, Mardan and Swabi districts on Thursday.
Similarly, widespread rain and snow of moderate intensity with isolated heavy rainfalls and snowfalls is expected in all districts of the province on Friday and Saturday, (January 7 to 8).
Scattered rain and snow over the hills of light to moderate intensity is expected in Abbottabad, Haripur, Mansehra, Torghar, Battagram, Kohistan, Chitral, Lower & Upper Dir, Bajaur, Swat, Shangla, Buner, Malakand, Mardan, Swabi, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Mohmand, Khyber, Kurram, Orakzai, Hangu & Kohat districts on Sunday(January 09).
Heavy Snowfalls are expected in Shangla, Swat, Buner, Dir, Chitral, Kohistan, Battagram, Torghar, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Kurram districts during the forecast period gusty winds are also expected in southern parts of the province.
It said that during the forecast period snowfall may cause road blockage, heavy rainfall may trigger land sliding in vulnerable areas. It added that heavy rainfall may cause urban flooding in Peshawar on Friday and Saturday.
In such a situation it is therefore requested to take all precautionary measures in order to minimize human losses or avoid damages to property, it adds.
Farmers have been advised to take necessary precautionary measures to protect
standing crops from the harmful impacts of stagnant water due to current and expected heavy rains.
The circular suggested that tourists may be informed about weather forecast, availability of all emergency services staff and machineries and other resources should be ensured.
It also advised quarters concerned to keep monitoring on local Barsati Nullahs and in case of any occurrence, updates may kindly be shared with PEOC-PDMA via helpline 1700 which was active round the clock.
Moreover, all concerned line departments had been advised to remain vigilant in restoring road links.
