The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has issued an alert to district administrations and relevant institutions following a forecast of intermittent rains, thunderstorms, and heavy downpours from August 28 to September 2.
According to PDMA, heavy rainfall may trigger flash floods in local streams and rivers in upper and central districts, including Galiat, Mansehra, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Buner, Bajaur, Swat, Dir, Shangla, Chitral, Battagram, Torghar, Khyber, Mohmand, Orakzai, Waziristan, Tank, Karak, Kohat, Hangu, Kurram, Lakki Marwat, Bannu, Nowshera, Swabi, Mardan, Haripur and Malakand.
The authority also warned of landslides in hilly areas and urban flooding in cities, while strong winds and thunderstorms may damage vulnerable houses, power lines, billboards, and solar panels.
PDMA has directed district administrations to clean drainage systems, ensure emergency services, and raise public awareness, particularly among farmers, livestock owners, tourists, and travelers.
Farmers have been urged to shift crops and animals to safe places, while tourists have been advised to avoid dangerous areas.
The authority also appealed to the public to avoid unnecessary travel during bad weather.
