Punjab Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi on Thursday announced the backing of its party to the PTI in the upcoming by-polls, asking the PML-Q leaders to run a full-fledged campaign for the PTI candidates.
He made this announcement during a meeting with a PML-Q delegation, led by the party’s Rawalpindi President Zubair Khan, which called on him in Lahore for discussions about the political situation in the country and the party’s strategy for the upcoming by-polls.
Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, on the occasion, said those who claimed to be ‘experienced’ had been exposed badly in front of the people. “No good is expected from the current rulers,” he maintained.
“After the destruction of the economy, people are being told [by the current rulers] to be prepared for more bad news,” Pervaiz Elahi flayed, adding: “These rulers cannot give relief to the people. A new tax is imposed every day.”
He lamented that the prices of electricity, gas and petroleum products were beyond the reach of the common man, adding: “There is a wave of anger among the people against the rulers due to the rising prices of electricity.”
He pointed out that the people would give their decision with the power of vote against the incompetent rulers in the by-elections. “The government should refrain from rigging and the use of police in the July 17 elections, or there will be a strong public reaction otherwise,” he warned.
“The fake, unconstitutional government of Punjab is using police against political opponents in the worst possible way,” he blamed
