Pervez Elahi decides not to resign from speakership due to fast changing political scenario

PML-Q leader and Punjab Assembly (PA) speaker Pervez Elahi has decided not to resign from the slot of speaker PA as he will not tender resignation due to fast changing political situation in the country.

He will seek vote of confidence from the house while staying as speaker and he will resign from the slot of speaker PA after obtaining vote of confidence.

Sources said if he fails to seek vote of confidence from house then he will continue to function as speaker. Under the constitution the vote of confidence can be obtained staying as speaker. However he will have to quit speakership after he is elected as chief minister.

The ruling party is searching for its candidate for speakership following the nomination of Pervez Elahi as chief minister.

There are media reports that MQM has decided to support opposition therefore, Pervez Elahi has decided not to resign from the slot of speaker Punjab Assembly.
